I have heard so many say that they don't want to join pinterest, because it is just one more thing to keep up with. I understand. But in case it might help you I have a little explanation for you.
I love collecting ideas. I always have and because I am not naturally inclined to be organized with paper, pinterest is helpful. I tried bookmarking, evernote, and the flickr favorites to keep my ideas straight. Also I have had piles and stacks of magazines, ripped pages and articles. Pinterest has mostly eliminated all of those other ways to save ideas. Organized and my house and computer are much less cluttered.
It is also extremely inspiring and fun. I absolutely love pinterest. I really wish I had had it as a student teacher planning so much. That would have been so helpful.
From Pinterest's about page,
"Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests."
Here are some of my favorite pin boards. Don't worry if I haven't linked yours! I love them all so much I may one day!
The first one I ever saw was my friend Leesa's:
Forever 90s
Eyeliner Gives Me Wings
Mason Jars and Twinkle Lights and Pretties
Another Friend, Madison always has great party ideas:
Crab Party
12th Night Party
Woodland owl party or shower
Courtney has one of the best boards on
Nails
I love the nostalgia of my Terri's board
Me
My awesome cousin, Annie is an expert on Pugs
Pug Luv
Here is a great beginner's guide to Pinterest! Since the guide was written last spring there may some differences in how things work now as they have upgraded Pinterest many times, but it is the most helpful pinterest guide I have seen.
What about you? What do you love about it? What idea have you been so grateful to find? Do you want an invite? Message me your email if you do!

Do good with your suffering.
I have had all of that I wrote rolling around in my head for 2 years and have discussed it with Mike many times. Crying. Wondering. Praying. It seems it was just God's timing to get it all out. Again thanks for reading.
Remembering we are not alone in our suffering has been so important for me and it seems many of you all.
So. What are going to do when suffering comes? What about when old wounds are opened? How are you going to glorify God even in this sad fallen world when sin surrounds us and causes suffering?
Make a choice to remember and change your focus from you to God.
You CAN choose your outlook.
Sometimes you really can choose how you feel.
Linda Dillow in her book A Deeper Kind of Calm, says of Asaph writing Psalm 77 (Go read it y'all) this,
We see Asaph’s change in perspective in the way he wrote the Psalm. In the first part of the Psalm, Asaph used I, me, and my twenty-times. Eleven times he referred to God by name, title or pronoun. But after he remembered, he referred to him twenty-four times and refereed to himself only three times- in the three I wills! Asaph lifted his eyes off of his desperate situation, where all he could see was himself, to his great God, who is majestic, mighty, and a worker of miracles.
Here is from my journal in March 2010, “Today is dark. I see no miracles in my life. But I will remember...I remember that God provided Mike a job after his back injury. I remember that so much should have gone wrong with my pregnancies and deliveries because of my RA and the size of my giant babies and their giant heads, but they were healthy and perfect. I know good can come from my RA and other health issues. Help me to trust you and know that I can suffer well and bring glory to you despite my pain and struggles. “
Ask how there might be good in this suffering.
Just think, while in jail or exile Paul authored much of our New Testament, John wrote Revelation; Martin Luther translated the bible to German. Where would we be today without that suffering!?
Choose joy my friends.
Do good with your suffering.
(Again with the random font size. And it won't let me fix it!)

So I am thankful for my suffering.
-->
We are 31 and have been married 12 years. We have had some of the most obscure and weird health issues for our age. We calculated about 3 1/2 of that have been really, really hard.
Mike was on bed rest when he was 20 from January to May. He left the house a handful of times and one of the few was to take me to a play to treat me to a super special day, but he had to stand in pain the entire time. His job position was terminated while he was on leave. The back injuries he had that year, still linger at times of stress today. The sting of not knowing where our income would come from feel like a scar that still hurts sometimes. That year though, I have sweet memories, I remember Mike reading and praying fervently during that time. He had a leather handmade prayer journal where he prayed for all the people and circumstances in his life, establishing habits that he continues today. We learned to rest together. We watched a lot of movies, tried drawing and other creative projects he could do while lying down. We had two couples that invested in our marriage and growth in knowing Christ. We had a lot of laughter, friendship, and grace in the midst of our first major trial as adults.
In my 25-26th year we lost 3 grandparents, our beloved cat and our best friend. I was diagnosed with a debilitating chronic disease. Mike had bronchitis and more bulging discs in his back. Yet, we also had me graduate and work my dream job, and we each made more than minimum wage, Mike led the building campaign for Sojourn to establish it's first building and we took a European trip of a lifetime.
This year, after 20 months of confusing health care and many random health issues happening that were not related to my RA, I had 16 weeks of allergic reaction, was taken off my RA treatment, and had allergy testing done to find that I was allergic to 11 elements and chemicals that are just about unavoidable (gold, nickel, cobalt, shellac…). Meanwhile Mike had his back go out several times and surgeries that caused more problems. However, we had another trip of a lifetime. We have seen our babies grow up to be best friends, to be creative, quirky and unique. We had several friendships grow and many blessings from friends and family near and far. Mike is blessed to be doing what he had always wanted, writing and producing.
The more we suffer, we are tempted to complain and trust me we do, but the more we see our blessings as treasure. We also feel the years of suffering have is starting to give us a small glimmer of understanding Heaven. I said last year in a talk on suffering I gave at the Sojourn mini conference, "

What joy this moment brings!
Freed from the blame my sin has brought,
From pain and death and it’s sting.
James 1: 2-3 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

List #6: Bubble Theme ideas
First up. Bubble ideas!
This idea of Bubble Refill Station is a great idea.
I keep seeing this Bubble Recipe popping on the interwebs.
Bubble Snake Maker
Bubble Machine, I recommend this so much. Toddlers for the life of them can't blow bubbles very well. Toddlers love bubbles though. This does it for them and their mamas. :)
We also got this Bump N Go Bubble Bug as a birthday present and it is equally fab. Must have a flat surface, kids love it.
For some bubble art, this eraser stamping in blue would be really fun.
Love the idea of this bubble art too.
We are going to also make a big B and a little b out of tagboard and use bubble wrap as a stamp to press onto the Bs for our summer alphabet book.

If you read this blog in a reader then click on over and see the new banner I just made! I have had this on my to do list for over a year and finally figured out how to. Here is the tutorial I used.
I am also currently using Clover Lane's tutorials and info on digital scrapbooking. Check out her info here. Our girls are 2 and 3 now and what I have documented has either been pictures taken, blogging here, or scribbling a few notes down and throwing them in a box :(. I have always wanted to do a scrapbook for each of their first year and then one for every few years from then on! Thanks to this idea I have already done about 20 pages in the last 5 days.
Maggie turned 2 last week. I'll be back with more pics on that soon. Such a sweet spunky girl.
Oh and that quilt. I put it down because of flair ups. It will be brought out again soon...
Thanks for checking back. Oh and the banner looks fine on my computer, but let me know if it is a weird size, cropped, or stretched on yours.

Girl's room part 2

I told you a while ago of goals for decorating my girl's bedroom. Dorothy's birthday came and went and there were plenty of other distractions for her at her August birthday and even at Christmas for her to remember that she was suppose to get a quilt from me. It was also a dilemma for me because I couldn't decide if I wanted to make it a toddler bed size or twin size. I knew the toddler bed wouldn't last much longer than a few months or a year before it was passed on to our escape artist, Mags so I hoped to make a twin size. That just meant a lot more work for me. Like twice the work. Luckily the decision was made for me by waiting so long to pick the project up again.
Here is the tutorial I have been using. Here is the quilt that started it all. I started this last June and only worked on it about 2 weeks (10-15 hours maybe) before completely packing it up in preparation for rearranging the house (like trading rooms with other rooms). I unpacked it this past last month and have been working on it quite a bit. Today I finished piecing and trimming the 80th square. I have spent about 40-50 hours on it so far.
I am like a deer in the headlights getting ready to sew all the squares together. I can't possibly pull it off.
The colors of the quilt are what I call bubblegum, cotton candy, cherry, lipstick, sage, and lime. Or something like that. I am loving the color scheme and excited to have an almost complete room.

How my memories work in my head.
My parents were very good at culture-ish stuff. Things slightly out of the ordinary from the family down the block, like taking me to foreign films, nice restaurants, visiting every single historical site in the region, and listening to classic bluegrass. You know what I hated as a kid though? foreign films, nice restaurants, visiting every single historical site in the region, and listening to classic bluegrass.
BUUUUT you know what I adore now as a 30 year old. ALL OF THOSE THINGS.
Dale and Sue for the Win!!!
However, I tried watching Henry V this week and snoooooreee....I fell asleep again!

Romans 8:26
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
Amen and amen.

List #5: Hibernation activities
Torpid: having lost motion or the power of exertion or feeling
We are hibernating. In these cold months we have had colds, viruses, stomach flu, RA, back injuries, etc. We are in a resting state. We have lost motion. I think I am OK with that. Some of of our inside winter activities I had planned to do as Advent activities and round 1 and 2 of Mr. stomach flu pushed those back to January.
Here are some of the things we have been doing to keep the fun going around here while at home so much.
Muffin Tin Rainbow Lunch: Freeze dried Strawberries, Goldfish, Barilla plus pasta, Peas, Blueberry juice, and an Oreo (see I totally break my own rules).
- Muffin tin lunches. Does your one to two year old only eat processed snack food to sustain herself and even then only a tiny bit a day. D did this at that age and Mags is on the same track. I think it is partly all the teething that takes place and partly the new found battle of wills, etc. I remembered reading about muffin tin lunches in the blogoshere and looked them up. Basically it is adding fun to eating, packaging your meal into muffin tins or other cute containers. Most grown ups and kids fall for something if it's presentation/packaging is pleasing to the eye. Dorothy prefers her muffin tin lunch to be rainbow colors. I try to have just 1 or 2 to be a processed snack and at that hopefully with no corn syrup, since I know it makes my RA flair up. I don't always follow this. To each his own. This really does not take me much extra time, I just use what bits of food we have and don't make this complicated. The green cup is almost always peas or green grapes because in the winter those are some of the only green food we ever have :) As they get older, I see us branching out into themes to go along with the season or a favorite book. For example, look at these great examples: Thanksgiving, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Book, Valentine's Day.
- D is working on writing her name. She use to hold her pencil naturally and then I think her teacher and I both made comments on holding the pencil properly and she got nervous and now questions how to hold it. Well we had a million character band aids around that never stayed on when the girls needed them so we began using them as stickers. I wrapped her pencils with a Dora or Mickey and now she knows to place her grip where the band aid is. It really seems to help.
- D also needed a boost in her confidence about writing in general, not just her grip. She told her Aunt Dawn and I separately that it was one of the hardest parts of preschool (Is that not adorable?). While sick, we didn't spend as much fun time doing art or drawing at home, so I have a writer's work shop basket where she can doodle, draw, and explore whenever. It doesn't seem like such a chore now at preschool or when I give her specific tasks, because she has lots of opportunities to do it on her terms just the way she likes it (This is our approach for reading/letters/phonics too). Right now we have just a basket that can be put out of Mag's reach. When Mag's can be trusted to have pencil access it will be on a lower level for both of them to use whenever they want. Here is a super inspiring Writer's Workshop for young writers. Love it.

- Mags is really into sorting and stacking. Sometimes I help and show her colors and sizes, but a lot of times I just let her do it her own way and have fun. In the picture above she is lining up our Mickeys and Minnies by size. No that is not even all of the ones we own. I guess we hoard -I mean collect Mickeys and Minnies :)
- Speaking of hoarding. I watched a couple episodes of Hoarders to kick start a much needed donation pile in our home. We are going to be in this house a couple more years and we need to get rid of about 1/4 of our things since there is no space or need for them anymore. I though that show would kick me in the pants and inspire a house purge. Then I watched Toy Story 3. Darn it if those two shows don't cancel each other out....sob. That Andy and Woody. House reorganization to. be. continued...sob.

List #4: My holiday cooking and baking list
Mike is our cook. I like to bake. We do a lot of it for fun in December, when he has a week or two off. I have been cleaning out the cabinets, drawers, and counters, trying to simplify and clean. Due to my RA, I just clean one appliance and one or two drawers a day. Even the first day on Monday, when I did the counters (moving unused things into long term storage, wiping everything down, and shining my pretty fridge) we were inspired to spend much more time in the kitchen.
Here are some of the things I hope to make in the next few weeks:
- Maple Roasted Almonds Perhaps D and I can make these tomorrow if she has a snow day and then package them for her teachers Christmas baskets.
- Sea-Salted Almond bark I think I will switch cashews for this, I'll roast them first and then sea salt them as well as sea salt the chocolate and perhaps put them in teachers baskets too.
- Easiest Baked Mac and Cheese My Kids have eaten every kind of noodle in the world and Mike and I keep looking for homemade version we love that is quick to put together.
- BUCKEYES Mike and I could eat these all. ALL of them!
- Ginger Ice Cream This year I started trying flavored ice cream. I use to just have vanilla or cookies and cream, now I want every kind.
- Cinna-nut Hot Chocolate I will have to try this with some chocolate what has a lower amount or no corn syrup. Corn syrup makes my joints ache. But, but, but, chocolate and peanut butter makes my stomach oh so happy.

List #3: Good excuses of where I have been, but also why I am back.
Good excuses of where I have been...
- I'd rather be spending time with my kids, family, and friends. Best excuse ever.
- I will always have ongoing health issues. This is how life is for me. No pity needed, it is just my reality. :)
- It is quicker to stay connected through twitter and FaceBook. I originally used this blog to share with family near and far, but now FaceBook does that for me.
I always am more likely to read a post with a picture, so here is my Dad,serving in the Navy during Vietnam. I originally posted this in honor of Veteran's day on FaceBook.
- I have been told this blog has been encouraging to others, so I'll keep it going. You can assume I'll be back in a few days or a few months unless I announce that I am done with blogging altogether.
- Going back and rereading posts, I have been so thankful to have it as a way to remember the big and little moments of my life.
- My sitereader system reminded me through email that 7-10 people still check this a day! So somebody is looking for me to write.

List #2: Things I don't like about this blog/blogging.
- I have never liked my layout or banners. I use to think I needed to make my own, but now several years later there are enough free ones that it seems silly sometimes to work on one when I could sew or read to my girls instead. (I do like this layout I have right now!)
- When I am physically sick this blog takes a back seat, which ultimately is fine, but I like the practice and benefits of blogging. (Creative outlet/online friendships/keeping up with family and friends)
- It seems outdated to me to be on blogger, but it is free and comfy. And you all already know where it is.
- Even with spell check, I often can make a mistake. This doesn't bother me that much, but I know there are some people that are very easily turned off by speelling errs and bad grammmer :)
- One thing you always read from professional bloggers about blogging is not to complain or apologize about things you don't love about your blog or for not blogging in a while. I break this rule every now and then and don't even care, call me a bad blogger. This place is for me to share and create with you!
- The wondering about what readers you have. Creepers? Other crafters? Other mamas? Friends? Family?

List #1: Things I learned as a theater kid that prepared me for my 30th birthday costume party.
- A wig if not stored on a mannequin/head, should be stuffed with tissue paper, wrapped in hairnet, and kept in a gallon zip lock bag.
- Not everyone likes to be the center of attention. Let them opt out of dressing up. Or let them wear regular clothes with dog tags and call themselves a GI Joe. (I love you Mike)
- Eye liner always looks best the morning after a show. This is because you wear way too much on stage and then try to wash it all off and there is just a bit left the next morning and it almost looks natural and awesome.
- Fabrics that need no hemming for quick costume fixes are netting/tulle, felt, t-shirt/jersey knit. (My apron is an XXL $5 t-shirt cut into the shape of an apron and decorated with Crayolas).
5. Socks can make or break the costume.
6. Junk food in excess will always make you stupid, annoying, and hyper. It will also make you feel lousy the next day. (See my above "Birthday Cake")
7. The friends you make in theater, just might be around 15 years later dressing as Care Bears or Sandi Patty for your birthday and being loyal best friends to you and your husband.

Here are my cute babies at a favorite local fun restaurant. What you can't see, is that I am holding them both and hollering because I am about to drop them.Any who.
While reading blogs I stumbled on this one, where the author is writing 52 lists. One a week. Here are the ones written so far. Love it.
I was thinking of some goal or theme to keep me motivated in blogging and I turn 30 tomorrow. So mulling this around I thought I'd make a goal to write 30 lists between my 30th and 31st birthday. I am great at setting goals. I am a planner. I make charts and lists. What I am not great at is reaching the high and lofty creative goals I set for myself. Here is to seeing how far I come!

The Girl's Room
I have always thought to myself that as long as my health allows I want to make a baby quilt for my girls, and then a twin size quilt that they help pick out fabric for when they are older say 3, 4, or 5. Well this 3rd birthday my little pink loving fashoinista, Dorothy Jean is approaching . She has many milestones on the horizon such as 100% potty training (slowly getting there), preschool this fall, and a big girl bed.
OK so long story, well long (that is how Mike describes my story telling)...
My girls have a blue, red, and green nursery. The original rental bedroom that Dorothy inherited was periwinkle and lime green and apple red was my choice for gender neutral theme. I am now trying to figure out how to phase out some of the blues and add a lot of pink, which is easier now, because they have a neutral off white wall in our house.
So we are making a pink quilt with lots of bits of green, white, and red in it. I found a pattern I love and of course it is stupid hard and very meticulous. I started this process with 2 months until her birthday and tomorrow marks the 1 month until her birthday. We'll see. I made a practice quilt for dear friends to see if I could pull it off. Again, I say, "We'll see".
Goals already completed
- Make a practice quilt to make sure I can pull this off (I made a baby quilt for my friends 3rd baby girl, being a 3rd child myself I thought she needed something of her own).
- Get rid of several boxes of stuff we never used for the girls.
- Organize their closet (so much stuff-took me a whole day. Remind me not to let it get so bad ever again).
- Rearrange room. Get Maggie away from all items that she can destroy or harm herself with.
Goals for their room
- Get art back up on their walls that Maggie can't rip down when in her crib or on her changing table.
- Make Dorothy's birthday quilt.
- Make a banner or bunting to add more pink to the room
- Make the height chart that I have had in my mind for 3+ years now and fill in the girls heights over the last 3 years
